An Early Thanksgiving and Minado

This weekend I headed to Boston to hang out with the fam and enjoy an early Thanksgiving. Brent and I are heading to his parents house tomorrow to celebrate so we squeezed in a little visit with my family over the weekend.

We had attempted to book a flight that left at 9AM on Saturday, but as we were confirming the flight, it completely booked up…Just our luck. So we ended up on a flight that left at 6AM. FUNN. We were on our way to the airport by 330 and arrived pretty much on time because the place that we had purchased parking tickets for near the airport didn’t open until 5AM. Who ever would have thought that would be a problem??

There was another parking lot close to the airport that we both drive by a ton, called the Park N Bark. Cute. So we headed there, parked the car, jumped on a shuttle and got to the airport with enough time to grab a coffee. 🙂

Happy Elf.

I had a yogurt parfait for breakfast and snacked on those blue chips that Jet Blue gives you in flight. I LOVE those things. I think they are just fascinating. Seriously. BLUE…chips. I’m a big lover of anything different.

My sister, Maggie picked us up at the airport and had two LARGE Starbucks coffees waiting for us in the car. Devoured. Then, we got to my parents house…and they too had coffee waiting us. I held back on the third one because I was a bit wired by that point.

We just hung around and went shopping for the day and headed back for a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. Sunday, we took it slow and had a small breakfast because we were all planning on heading to Minado for lunch.

If you love sushi, this is your jam. It is a sushi buffet. All you can eat sushi. They have other traditional japanese foods as well, such as stir fry, beef and broccoli and everything else. But, I go there for the sushi.

You have no idea. We all filled our plates to the max and devoured it. This was plate #1 for me:

We all went nuts. You can try just about any type of roll and more. You name it, they make it. My second go around was a tid bit less than the first plate. I was full. My sisters and Brent headed to the desert table after the second plate and came back with some of the signatures of Minado. One staple, and must try is the Green Tea Ice Cream. It’s delicious. I couldn’t keep my chopstick away from it 🙂

The whole meal was amazing. This has always been my favorite place to go to when I really just want a ton of Sushi. If you are in the Boston area, I highly recommend it. It is actually located just outside Boston in Natick, but it is really easy to get to.

Monday, we went into Boston and shopped around some more. We ate at Cafe de Boston in the Financial District, where we met up with my brother. Cafe Boston is a salad bar that has just about everything you could possibly think of. I went nuts and grabbed more than my stomach could handle. It just all looked so good and I wanted to try everything!

Brent and I returned yesterday morning. When we got in, we were running around trying to find the shuttle for the Park N Bark. We were literally standing on the opposite side of the platform when one of them pulled up. I went sprinting down the street to catch the shuttle before it pulled away. I jumped on board, loaded my luggage and sat down. As Brent was settling in, the driver asked for our parking ticket. I pulled it out and we ACTUALLY parked at The Parking Spot.

They look so similar!! They are both yellow polka dotted signs! Well, we ran off and I sprinted back to where we were originally standing and caught the Parking Spot bus to get back to our car. I guess it was too early for us to notice that we pulled into a completely different parking lot than the one we were looking for. At least THEY were smart enough to write down all the information on a card. Otherwise we probably would have been wandering around for hours trying to figure out where we parked the car…

REMINDER! Today is the last day to submit your Sizzle Wars Recipe! Get them in!! Email your favorite childhood recipe to SizzleEats@gmail.com

Have you ever LOST your car?? Or forgot where you parked it?? How did you find it again??

My brother told me a doozy of a lost car this weekend, but I’ll share one of Brent’s instead 🙂 Brent was picking me up from the airport when I first moved down here. So I had 2 large pieces of luggage weighing 180 pounds combined (yes), Hunter (my cat), and my carry on. Brent and I were not dating at this point, just friends from college that hadn’t seen each other in a long long time. But you could tell he was a bit nervous and wasn’t really sure how to act. He grabbed my two LARGE pieces of luggage and started carrying them out the door. I tried to help but he wasn’t having any of it. When we got to the parking garage, he couldn’t remember where his car was parked. We walked up and down several flights of stairs, over to other parking garages, back outside and literally everywhere in this place. Brent was now sweating. A lot. Dripping. He eventually left me with the bags and started jogging around the parking structures until he finally swung around to me with the car. It took a solid 45 minutes wandering around the garage. I thought it was hilarious. Brent…not so much 🙂

Running Intimidation

This morning I had the complete intention of going out for my long run of the week. After hitting the 9 mile mark last week…it was time to up the ante and go for some double digits. I had mentioned the fact that I was due for a 10 miler to Brent, his eyes jumped out of his head and he pretty much told me I was nuts. I hadn’t  out the run last night either, which I normally do just to mentally prepare myself.

When my alarm went off at 6, I most likely just reached over and shut the thing off…BUT I don’t really remember doing that…So, I actually ended up waking up at 7. Not really enough time to run 10 miles.

Anyways, all of my excuses combined, I completely psyched myself out and ended up going for a 6.5 mile run. And when you actually think about it…I really missed the mark by 3.5 miles (not a crazy distance) so I don’t know why I made such a big deal about it. My NO EXCUSES PLAN is to run another shorter run tomorrow, rest Thursday and GET READY FRIDAY 11 MILER!

As the half marathon date approaches, the more and  more nervous I’m getting. Reality is setting in and I’m realizing how far 13.1 miles actually is. FAR. That can be a fifteen minute drive across town. 7-8 Minutes on the highway. Or a 3 and a half hour walk. But, even though I’m getting a bit of nerves, I’m really excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

After the run, I whipped together a Blackberry Protein Smoothie. Lord knows I needed protein. The only thing I would have changed is the seeds. There were a bit too many for my taste.

After chugging my smoothie. I threw together a little TO-GO pack for lunch. Can you guess what I’m planning on making at work??

I know, not really too difficult to guess…But I’m going to leave you hanging anyways!

We are also half way through the Sizzle Wars entry period! Make sure you get your recipes submitted! Just shoot an email over to me at SizzleEats@gmail.com with your favorite childhood recipe to be entered to win an Assortment of To You Snacks! They are Delicious!

If you don’t have the time to make it and snap a picture, just send over the recipe and I will snap my own picture of YOUR recipe!

Happy Tuesday!

To You Snacks!

I have something really exciting to announce/share with you this lovely Friday afternoon. A few weeks ago I had been looking for a fun new snack to give a go when I came across To You Snacks. To You Snacks is a trail mix and snack bar company that uses all natural nuts, berries and ingredients to make a healthy snack that’s easily portable. Initially I was excited to just give them a try because as we all know, I LOVE trying new things. BUT, I was even more excited to find out that they were local 🙂

So, naturally I shot them and email just to find out some more info. WHELP, I finally met with the owners, who are absolutely delightful. They are originally from Mexico and have been making snacks for just about 15 years. They are both avid water skiers and I just found out runners too! Ergo, To You Snack Bars are aimed to fuel the active lifestyle and cater to that high protein, low sugar need.

BUT! That’s not the best part. So, they have a whole bunch of different bars that you can choose from including:

Mango Yogurt

Apricot Coconut

Chocolate Cranberry

Goji Berry

Peanut Butter and Cranberry

Apple Pecan

And a whole bunch more. If for some crazy reason, these don’t catch your eye…you have the option to MAKE YOUR OWN. Yup. Email them and just provide a list of all the different ingredients you want in your bar. They will then shoot you back an email with the nutritional facts for your bar, just to get your approval. If you want more protein, or less carbs or anything else, you can adjust the ingredients. OR, just say okay. They will make the bars and ship them right to you. COOOL. Call it…the Sizzle Bar. I think it has a ring to it…

Anyways, if you couldn’t guess…that’s what my snack was today 🙂 I had the Whitney McClintock Bar (bet you can’t guess who made it!) which is packed with Berries, Almonds, Mango and Yogurt.

It was delicious. Think trail mix packed into an easy to eat little bar and that’s the flavor. No added sugars. Not crazy sweet. Simple and delicious.

Anyways, To You Snacks has something else crazy fun to offer. The PRIZE FOR SIZZLE WARS! So the winner of Sizzle Wars is going to get a box of assorted To You Snacks to give a go.

A box contains 14 snack bars and trail mix. I’m really excited 🙂 And just to mention, they are Gluten Free and Vegan friendly (if you omit the chocolate or yogurt chips).

So this is your 1 week mark reminder to get your Sizzle Wars Entry in by the 21st! All you need to do is shoot me an email with your Childhood Favorite Recipe along with a Picture to SizzleEats@gmail.com. Easy enough 🙂 Have a fantastic rest of your Friday!

What’s your favorite snack bar?? What are the ingredients in it that make it so good?? What would you put in your personal bar and what would you call it??

Mine would have raspberries, almonds, pecans, dark chocolate bits and some chia seeds 🙂 Let’s call it…The Tummy Rumble Cure

Haha I’m terrible at coming up with names…HELP.

Let the Sizzle Wars Begin!

I’m actually really excited to announce the beginning of the FIRST OFFICIAL SIZZLE WARS!

Sizzle Wars is a monthly recipe competition hosted here! On Sizzle Eats. Cooking and baking competitions are becoming more and more popular on reality TV and in the spirit of loving these cooking competitions, Sizzle Wars is going to open these food competitions up to anyone who wants to participate. On the first of each month I will announce the food topic for the month and you will have 3 weeks to come up with your original recipe and submit it by email to SizzleEats@gmail.com. By the end of the month, I will have selected the winners for each category and the Overall Winner, who will receive a fantasticly fun prize, which will change from month to month. They could be anything from my favorite foods to giftcards. It will be a surprise each month.

The top 3 recipes for each category will also be listed in a tab under the Sizzle Recipes for everyone to reference anytime they want. After all, there are tons and tons of different recipes out there and we all have great ideas. Why not find a way for everything to share their favorites?! Especially in a competitive environment! Who doesn’t love a good competition!!

SO, What are the Categories:

  1. Most Creative: This award will go to the person that was either the most creative aesthetically or ingredient wise. We all know there are certain foods that are well complemented by others, such as Buffalo and Blue Cheese, or Apples and Brie. Get creative with your ingredients and mix up those traditional matches. Make your ingredient combinations unexpected! OR, get creative with your presentation. Can you make a cupcake look like a turkey?? Or a cake look like bunny??
  2. Healthiest: Whenever I come across a recipe that is unquestionably unhealthy, I try to turn that around and make it taste even better but with less calories and add in a bit more nutrition. Can you turn an Oreo Crusted Cheesecake into something healthier but still preserve the flavor??
  3. Simplicity Award: This award will go to the recipe that doesn’t have a long prep time, a long list of ingredients or any complicated directions. Can you make a delicious dish without a long list of ingredients and hours in the kitchen?! Absolutely!
  4. Best Overall: This award will go to the recipe that is creative, healthy and simple. Afterall, that is what Sizzle Eats is all about! Food doesn’t need be complicated or take hours to taste great and be good for you.

So what do you need to do??

After the topic is announced at the beginning of the month, start brain storming. For example, if the topic is a Pasta Dish, you will have 3 weeks to make a pasta dish and submit it. Easy!

What needs to be submitted??

  • Your recipe listing out the ingredients and steps to make it. Make sure you cite any sources if need be.
  • A picture of the completed product. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy but it will be posted along side your recipe if you win!
  • Any other comments you would like to include such as substitutions or additions people can make. Or just to say hello!

So nothing too crazy! The point of this is to get people sharing their favorite recipes and to have fun. I love a good competition and it should be really fun to see what people come up with. The topics are going to be something that you are most likely cooking anyways so all you have to do is snap a picture and send it in. When the winners are announced you will be able to see several of the recipes that were entered and you can judge them for yourselves as well! Get those competitive juices flowing!

Let me know if you have questions or if I missed anything here!

LET THE SIZZLE WARS BEGIN!

For November, the category is CHILDHOOD FAVORITES. Everyone grew up one Mac N Cheese, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Mom’s Meatloaf, or steamed brussels sprouts. Maybe not brussels sprouts, but you get the point. There are just some foods that you have eaten just about your entire life.

For me, Tuna Noodle Casserole stands out as THE dinner that I couldn’t get enough of. I still can’t. Whenever I go home, or my mom asks what I want for my birthday dinner, it IS TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE. For some reason I am just a bottomless pit when it comes to that stuff.

So, to kick off SIZZLE WARS, I have chosen childhood favorites as your challenge. Pick something in your list of go to meals that has stuck with you since you have been a kid. Maybe you have changed it a bit?? Added a few ingredients or taken away some?? Made it healthier?? Easier?? Portable?? Freezable?? Whatever it is, make that meal in the next 3 weeks, take a picture and email it along with the recipe to SizzleEats@gmail.com before November 21st!

If you don’t make it off of a written recipe, measure out the ingredients before you use them in your meal and just jot it down. We just want to make sure we can all replicate it when it makes us drool!

When the 21st rolls around, submissions will stop and I will reveal the winners for each category and THE PRIZE for best Overall Recipe!

If you have questions or I have confused you or ANYTHING feel free to shoot me an email or just make a comment below for everyone else to follow as well. Chances are if you have a question, everyone else does too!

HAPPY SIZZLE WARS!
