Jack’s Steakhouse

This weekend was my friend Christina’s birthday! Whoot Whoot! We all went out for dinner at Jack’s Steakhouse and just hung around some really great friends. Jack’s is located on Lake Baldwin and they are known for, can you guess?? their steaks.

I was originally going to stick with my chicken/fish only meatatarian deal, but I spotted a burger and started to feel guilty that I was going to order fish at a steak house. I don’t regret it at all.

Happy elf. I only ended up eating half of it, and taking the rest home because it really filled me up.

IMG_1196

Brent, the steak lover he is, got a 22oz cowboy cut steak. It was MASSIVE.

IMG_1190

To munch on before the meal, they had some bread and dipping oil…and it was SO GOOD. I ate a solid 3 pieces of it before the waiter even took our order.

If you like steak…this is the place to go. It can be a bit pricey because they have such great quality steaks, but if you go on Thursday, they have 5 dollar burgers. You can’t beat that!

Sunday

Sunday, I headed to Lake Eola to walk around the farmers market with my friend Audra and our pups. I only took Bacon out because I figured he would be the easiest to control and he’s been giving me these serious puppy dog eyes for the past few days. On the way over there, I came up to this truck…and couldn’t stop laughing at it. It was really hard to snap a picture because of the lighting, and ended up taking 4 or 5. The guy caught me…and waved out the window. Embarrassing.

IMG_1201

The if it fits in the truck, let’s move it is seriously put to the test here. He has rope twisting around every leg of furniture in the truck just to hold it in there. Haha.

Anyways. The weekend was full of sore muscles and relaxing. My legs are still a bit tight, but I’m going to try and squeeze a run in today. After the half marathon, I’m dying to get back out on the road.

Have you ever seen something that you just had to take a picture of and got caught doing it??

First Half Marathon = Conquered

This morning Brent and I FINISHED our Half Marathon. I am pumped. The race started at 7 this morning, so we were on the road by 615. I lined up at the 9 minute mark hoping that having some faster people around me would get me going. But, I ended up starting at a pace that was too fast. I ended up having to convince myself that I was going to go at my own pace and not try to BEAT everyone else that was running.

Around mile 5 or 6 my knee legit just said no thanks. It hasn’t done this in a while. Out of all of my long runs…it had to be this one that it just said see you later. I was limping a bit and struggling a lot for the next two miles. I stopped a few times to really stretch it out a bit, but it never seemed to calm down.

At mile marker 7, I started thinking in terms of the miles that we had left. However, my math was wrong and I for some reason though we only had 5 left at that time.

When we got to mile 9, the number of people cheering us on really started to pick up. Their signs…were AMAZING.

  • You trained for this longer than Kim Kardashian’s marriage lasted.
  • Run faster, I just farted.
  • Sweat is fat crying.
  • Run like you stole something.

Those were just a few favs, but people can be really creative. We finished and immediately grabbed a banana, which I fell in love with after the Rock N Run in Sept. Grabbed some water and headed over to the grassy to start stretching.

IMG_1175

I think Brent wanted to shoot me because while we were sitting there chatting away, I couldn’t help but start thinking about the next one! I loved it. I am absolutely doing another one. Brent just responded, can we just talk about this tomorrow?? Haha.

IMG_1179

Tired elves. After we gained some strength, we started walking around the tents that they have set up for a little after party. One of the things that they were giving away was chocolate milk. Brent found this out before the race and may or may not have been running towards that chocolate milk.

IMG_1181

The route that we ran was really, really nice. It had several areas that were cobble stoned, which wasn’t amazing to run on towards the end. It took you all through downtown Orlando, and around all of the little lakes in the area. If you aren’t from Orlando, I would say this is a great way to get a good sense of what living in Orlando is like!

IMG_1182

They had tons and tons of volunteers and police officers marking the way. Every mile and a half there were Port A Johns and water stations to grab something. Even more towards the end. At mile 8.5 they had supplements to give you that extra boost. There were bands playing in several spots along the way. Tons of spectators cheering you on. They also had a medic about half way through.

At the end, there were tents to get ice wrapped on your shins, knees or whatever else and cooling stations that you just stuck your head into and it showered you with a light cool mist. Yes.

The weather, was perfect. There was a little chill in the air in the morning, and it warmed up to about 75. The light, long sleeve shirts that we wore were perfect. I had so much fun that I am sure this isn’t going to be my last half marathon. Only next time, I’m running for time!

IMG_1183

Post race, I didn’t really want to eat or drink much. The thought of food was just…mer. After about an hour at home, I was ready for something light. I ended up making a little twist on a tuna melt, that was so good.

IMG_8971

Ingredients:

1 Can Tuna 2 Tablespoons BBQ Sauce
1/4 Cucumber Chopped 1/2 Slice Provolone Cheese

Strange, but delish. Brent loved it. I love everything with Sonny’s BBQ sauce on it anyways,

I ended up resting for a bit of the day because tonight, we are going to a BIRTHDAY PARTY!!

A Tummy Twister

Yesterday, for lunch I had brought some pea soup to work thinking it would be a really easy thing to just heat up and munch on while I was shuffling through paperwork. It actually turned out really well because it was so easy to heat up and was absolutely delicious.

IMG_1162

I spent the day running around as usual and left around 5 to speed back to Orlando to pick up my race bib and packet. EXCITING! When you walk into Track Shack, they have a large board set up with all of the bib numbers. You find your number, and tell the ladies in back so they can grab everything for you. When I looked up Brent and my numbers, I realized we had the SAME EXACT NUMBERS from Autumn Rock N Run. 1286 and 1287.

IMG_8941

I asked the ladies if that was normal, because they obviously didn’t select number based upon alphabetical order. They said it’s random number generated and that is actually EXTREMELY weird. I don’t know if this is a good omen or a bad one, but all I know is that every time I think about the race…my stomach twists up in knots.

So nervous for this run. It will honestly be the first time that I have intentionally ran 13 miles and in training, they don’t have to get up to that milage.

I also picked up some of the energy chews that I’m planning on munching on before and after the race. I have been trying out a few different chews and energy supplements for during the run and have found these to be the best. The energy gels just don’t sit well in my stomach.

IMG_8944

I got the Shot Bloks for a pre-race energy boost because they tend to make your mouth water a bit, which isn’t exactly what you want while running. The GU Chomps are definitely best for energy along the way. They are easy to carry around, don’t make you thirsty and don’t make me nauseous.

And lastly, I picked up 2 of the 13.1 magnets for my car and Brent’s car. As soon as this run is over, I am crawling over to me car and slapping that 13.1 magnet on my car in celebration. This is going to be my little badge of achievement. BOOM.

I’m nervous and excited at the same time. But I figure that is the best mindset to be in when you are challenging yourself.

Any quick Pre-race tips?!Ā

A Secret Twi-Hard

Last night Brent and I had gone to pick up his truck from the Ford Dealership because it was having some trouble earlier this week. Turns out the part that he needs is back ordered until 2013. Bad Luck. On the way back, we stopped by Menchies for some frozen yogurt. I LOVE this place. It’s a mix your own frozen yogurt place and they switch up the flavors depending on the season.

I was delightfully surprised to find peppermint and eggnog as some new additions šŸ™‚ While we were eating our ice cream, Brent suggested to go see a movie, considering the theatre is literally 10 feet away. When I asked what movie he wanted to see…he mentioned Twilight. YUP. Big man is a secret Twi-Hard. This is not my joking face.

I have caught him in the past watching it when it was on TV and just laughed at him. He says he only likes the second one because it has more dogs in it…HMmMmMm. Just admit it…you like the vampires too.

This one was a bit more…mushy..than the others. It was good, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.

Breakfast

This morning I woke up with a headache and tried to stay in bed and maybe shake it off, but no dice. I eventually just rolled out, showered and made up some breakfast. I went with something simple, that will get me through the day. English Muffin, peanut butter, honey and sliced banana. YUM.

Is there a show or a movie that you like to watch, but just prefer to watch it by yourself??Ā

In college, my roommate and I used to put SpongeBob on in the afternoon after classes while working on some homework. We would shut the shades to the apartment because we didn’t want anyone walking by to see. šŸ™‚ Secrets out!

Chocolate Strawberry Pancakes and Weekend Festivities!

This weekend was FUN. It was the perfect combination of relaxing and going crazy. The best kind of weekend. I ended up working in the morning on Friday and then heading home due to Sandy. All of the offices were closed on the east coast. There were also school closingsĀ  for the hurricane. A HURRICATION!

Sandy is now hitting aiming itself at the north and people are starting to prepare for the worst. I am glad that we didn’t really see much of the storm, just a bunch of wind. It’s a bit funny that people up north are getting a little hurrication, but I have to say, the best day off from school that I got when I was up there was a Cold Day. For Cereal. It was sub-zero temps and we were still going to school. When it was forecasted to be -20 they decided to call school. It ended up being warmer than the previous day and we had a fantastic day off from school šŸ™‚

Anyways, I went out with someĀ  friends for Halloween on Friday. I was dressed as the Black Widow and the other two girls were super girls too. the boys went as the mostĀ  terrifyingĀ clowns. When Brent put on his mask, Oreo wentĀ  from happy puppy to the most terrified puppy in the world. She wouldn’t even go near him.

In the morning, I really wanted something terrible for me. Sometimes, I just need that. Haha. However, I still found a way for it to be healthy. MER. BUT DELICIOUS! Chocolate Strawberry Pancakes! OhhhĀ YEaaa Baby.

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Pancake Mix 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Cocoa Mix 1/3 Cup Sliced Strawberries
3 Eggs 1/3 Cup Almond Milk

Directions:

1. In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients. Heat up a skillet to medium heat. Spray it with a non-stick spray and place a 1/4 cup of batter on the skillet. When bubbles surface on the pancake, flip it.

And FINITO! I topped it off with some frozen strawberries that I melted in the microwave and a bit of syrup. You can use pancake syrup, honey or agave. Any of them work out fantastically. I spent the day putzing around, and not doing too much. I met up with Brent and we went out to Wekiwa Springs Campground to watch the Gator vs Bulldog game. A friend of ours had a blow up big screen projecting the game out on the camp ground. SO MUCH FUN! the night was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying the game with some friends. The pups even got to enjoy the afternoon and come with us.

Sunday was full of more putzing. I took it slow getting up. Eventually went for a 4 mile run, which was way more difficult than it should have been. Seriously, I don’t think I am ever going to take that long of a break from running again. It was brutal. When I got back, I was sitting outside in the backyard and two pretty little butterflies caught my eye. THEN, all of the spiders death traps awaiting the poor little guys. Tons and tons of spider webs were on the top of the screened in area. I saw a butterfly get caught the other day in one, and it killed me to watch the little guy go…so I ripped down all the spider webs. I have to show you what these spiders look like…

I have never seen anything like them. There is nothing like these guys up north. It is a spiny back orb weaver. They do make really cool looking webs and apparently they will bite you. But, I’m not going to lie, the Banana SpiderĀ that I came across last time I was hiking in WekiwaĀ Springs was definitely a little creepier looking.

After making my backyard a safer place for the pretty little butterflies, I madeĀ  a Salmon Salad Sandwich on an Everything Flat Bagel. So good. I forgot how much I like the canned salmon and it definitely tastes better to me than the tuna salads. I feel like there is more flavor to the salmon.

Last, but not least, I FINIALLYĀ GOT TO GO TO JEREMIAH’S! I was so excited to give it a go. I’ve been hearing such good things about it that I’ve just been looking for the opportunity to go. Jeremiah’s is an Italian Ice place that makes all of their italian ice daily. YUP. They change up their flavors everyday.

I’m the weirdo that asks what the best flavors are andĀ  holds up the line. After literally quizzing this poor woman on all of their flavors, I decided on Peanut Butter and Cookies and Cream.

The cookies and cream tasted like they mashed up Oreos and mixed it into italian ice. So freaking good. The peanut butter was also phenomenal. They are muchĀ  creamier than I expected because when I think of Italian ice I think of that Lemon Italian Ice that we all had growing up. It’s tart and has more of an ice base I guess. This was more of a cross between italian ice and ice cream to me. But I loved it! Definitely going back!

This is getting crazy long for a post so I’ll leave you with that! YUMMMM.

What’s your craziest vacation day?? Hot Day?? Cold Day?? Northeastern?! Sandy?!

Mine was definitely the cold day. Who even knew that existed!
