A Happy, Throwback Running Playlist

Usually, when I’m running, I listen to Pandora and just select a radio station that I think will motivate me for the next 45 minutes. Pit Bull Radio is a favorite and recently it’s been Workout Radio. However happy and upbeat, or pumped up the song is, it’s rare that one will really get me excited about it.

Ergo…I’ve started back into the crazy world of making playlists. Considering I have just about no music on my iTunes (I lost all 5500 songs when my college computer died), I’ve been trying to be selective on which songs I actually download.

I made this playlist while looking for some motivating throwbacks. Songs that you don’t really hear on the radio today and songs that bring me back to training on teams in high school and college.

Running Playlist

Flashdance…What a Feeling: Irene Cara

Magic: B.o. B. (feat. Rivers Cuomo)

Gonna Make you Sweat: C + C Music Factory

All for You: Kate Ryan

I Wanna Dance With Somebody: Whitney Houston

Walking on Sunshine: Katrina and the Waves

Walking on Broken Glass: Annie Lennox

Hit Me WIth Your Best Shot: Pat Benatar

Let’s Hear it For the Boy: Deniece Williams

Barracuda: Heart

Call On Me: Eric Prydz

Heaven is a Place on Earth: Belinda Carlisle

Brent…thought this also made a great 5AM road trip playlist, so guess what we jammed to on our trip out to Michigan?! After that interesting car ride, I’m going to change it to an after 8AM playlist because I need my coffee before I listen to Brent belting out What a Feeling. It was a very enthusiastic rendition.

Barracuda, in this play list, was a great decision. I was just about sprinting when that song came on.

What is your favorite workout song??

Peanut Butter, Banana Puppy Cupcakes

It’s no surprise that I spoil our dogs. Brent blames me for Bacon being spoiled, which is probably true. 🙂

I’ve been watching re-runs of DC Cupcake and it really got me in the mood to make something fun for the dogs. I’ve been thinking about making some treats for the and all I needed was the inspiration to make some cupcakes to help make the decision easy.

I knew the basic ingredients I wanted to put in them, and just kind of wen from there. The doggies seemed to really like them…and people did too!

Peanut Butter Pupcakes

Ingredients:

2 Whole Ripe Bananas 1/2 Cup Applesauce
1/4 Cup Peanut Butter 2 Cups Wheat Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda 1/2 Cup Canola Oil

Icing

2 Whole Ripe Bananas 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. First, mix the canola oil and applesauce. Then add in the peanut butter until it is smooth. Last, add in the flour and baking soda.

2. In a separate bowl, mash up the bananas and then add them into the batter. Pour the batter into mini muffin tins with paper liners. Cook them for 15 minutes.

Icing

1. Mash the banana until they are as smooth as possible. Then add in the peanut butter and mix. This will determine the thickness of the icing.

2. When the pupcakes are cooled, top them off with the icing and let the little nuggets enjoy!

Pupcakes Steps

The little spoiled doggies loved their little treats and I didn’t feel bad giving it to them because I know EXACTLY what’s in them. And it didn’t include any ingredients that I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving them any day of the week.

A few people tried them too…and they weren’t bad at all. Think banana bread without the sugar topping. They were delicious.

When I’m going out to the store and just want to pick up some treats to have in the cabinet, I love the Trader Joe’s Dog Treats. Simply because when you read the label, you know every ingredient. If you wouldn’t eat it, why would you feed it to them??

I’ve tasted the Trader Joe’s treats…and they are quite bland. Tastes like food…but bland. I don’t need to worry about anyone eating those 🙂

Here are some other home-made dog treats:

Buffalo Chicken Drumsticks

I promised some buffalo chicken drumsticks, and buffalo chicken drumsticks is what you’ll get!

It’s no surprise that Brent loves everything buffalo flavored so when I went to the store and bought WAY too many drumsticks for just two people, I needed to try a few recipes. After the fail of a lemon rosemary drumstick, and the epic success of the BBQ chicken drumstick, a buffalo recipe was on it’s way.

Actually, I tried 2 different ways of making it. One with Buffalo Hot Sauce and the other with Siracha. So, take your pick! They both turned out great!

Buffalo Drumsticks

Ingredients:

6 Drumsticks 2 Tablespoons Canola Oil
1 Teaspoon Chili Powder 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Sauce

2 Tablespoons Melted Butter 1/4 Cup Siracha or Buffalo Sauce
1 Tablespoon BBQ Sauce

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 Degrees. Mix the canola oil, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a bowl. Pour it into a freezer and bag add in the drumsticks. Toss the bag until the chicken is well covered and place them on a baking dish. Make sure there are separated. Bake for 40 minutes.

2. Remove from the oven. Mix together the melted butter, hot sauce and BBQ sauce. Cover the drumsticks with the sauce and bake at 400 degrees for an additional 15 minutes.

And finito!! They were delicious. The extra chili powder and hot sauce really added a second layer of heat to the hot sauces. Brent really liked the buffalo chicken sauce and I really enjoyed the siracha. I don’t think you could really go wrong.

Things I’m Loving!

I’ve started to come to the realization that the summer is half over and I don’t really feel like I’ve taken FULL advantage of the amazing weather we are having. Besides dying to BBQ just about every meal and do everything I possibly can outside, I’ve realized that I want to make sure I look back on the summer knowing it was a great summer. Just break monotony a bit, and have a TON of fun. It’s way too easy to forget that.

In the spirit of keeping it fun, this is just a quick list of Friday Favorites and what I’m loving right now 🙂

1. Training: Recently I’ve been starting to train for my 3rd and 4th half marathons. i did this same Zoom Half Marathon last year and missed the two hour mark by a whopping 2 minutes. It was a real bummer and I am determined to complete that goal this year. I actually stepped out yesterday for a run and didn’t stand to check the mirror. When I got outside, I realized I looked like a highlighter gone wrong. So, naturally I tried to snap a selfie…and got caught, which just made me feel even more ridiculous.

2. Travelling: The beginning of the summer started with our amazing wedding and 2 weeks of travel to the Bahamas and Las Vegas. After coming back from those trips, I’ve gotten to Seattle, Cape Cod and Northern New Jersey. But things have started to settle down…at least in my mind and I’ve been dying to start planning some more trips. Not to worry, Michigan is only around the corner, and then the traditional Mt Washington Summit! I’m really looking forward to it!

3. I’m always on the look out for cute workout gear, because sometimes all you need to get your butt out the door and to the gym is a nice new outfit. Seriously. It’s also great to hang around the house in and run some quick errands.  Anyways, I’m absolutely LOVING the Heidi Klum New Balance Collection. I think she just nails it.

4. I don’t know if you caught on from last week’s post, Ulta Crazy, but I’m really loving  some of those beauty vlogs on YouTube. I’ve been following Fleur on instagram for a little while and just started watching her videos. It may just be her english accent that has me completely captivated.

5. Barbecuing. I just can’t get enough of being outside in this weather.

6. New Eats: Today, I went with my brother to a new Venezuelan restaurant for lunch and it was just incredible. It’s so fun to try new cuisine and we weren’t let down. It was a real hole in the wall place but it blew us away.

7. Puppies: I get it….everyone is obsessed with their dogs but can you blame me?? They are just adorable 🙂

Happy Friday!!

What is making your Friday the best??

Drumsticks on the Barbie

I went out last week and bought some drumsticks. Well, slightly over kill for two people, I bought about 6 pounds. Whoops. After attempting a rosemary lemon chicken drumstick last week and botching that one, I made a barbecue drumstick that was a winner.

I made these in the oven, but you could easily heat up the grill and make these for a BBQ.

BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

Ingredients:

6 Chicken Drumsticks/ 2 Pounds 1 Cup BBQ Sauce
1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar 1 Tablespoon Cider Vinegar
1 Teaspoon Salt 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Pepper
1/2 Tablespoon Buffalo Wing Hot Sauce

Directions:

1. Whisk all of the sauce ingredients together. Poke small holes in the chicken wings and roll them in the sauce. Make sure they are generously covered.

2. Place the wings in a baking dish, spaced apart, and bake in the oven for 40 minutes at 400 degrees. Place additional sauce on the tops of the wings and bake for another 20 minutes.

I used buffalo wing sauce for the hot sauce and Yuengling BBQ sauce in the recipe. I would absolutely make these again and use this sauce on future BBQ chickens. I actually only planned on having one to taste because I wasn’t hungry going into dinner, but unfortunately for Brent, I inhaled 3 of them. Sorry I’m not sorry.

Drumstick Steps

Fortunately for you guys, I’m not going to share the rosemary lemon chicken drumstick recipe. It was a serious bust.

But no worries! I’ve got another 2 pounds of drumsticks!! I’m thinking Buffalo Chicken 🙂 Who’s surprised??

Have you ever gone a little nuts and bought way too much of the SAME type of food??
