Quinoa and All Fired Up!

This weekend was a bit of sunny and a lot of bit of rainy because of our friend Isaac coming by. On Saturday morning I took Oreo to get her hair cut because last month we attempted to groom her ourselves, and well….only half of her chest is shaved, her legs have extremely long hair so she looks like she has a pair of uggs on all the time, and she has a beard. It’s safe to say that we struggled a bit.

So, off to the groomers it was. The whole, Let’s see if we can shave Oreo ourselves to save a bit of money thing, isn’t ever going to happen again.

You can kind of see her little beard in the picture, but trust me, when you look at her straight on there is no mistaking it.

When I got back, I decided to take Bacon for a walk to get me some Starbuck’s. This is definitely one of my favorite things to do with the pups. Nothing beats just sitting outside with your dog sipping on a cold Frappacino.

The Americano still fits into my Vegan diet and I don’t have to feel like I’m compromising what I love.

When I got home I decided to whip up some Quinoa. I hadn’t actually given this a try before, but I have heard such good things that I felt like it was time to. I decided to go really simple this time just to get the idea of it, but be ready for some more extravagant Quinoa breakfasts in the future!

1/2 Cup Rinsed Quinoa 1 1/2 Cups Almond Milk
Fresh Bluberries Fresh Strawberries

1. In a saucepan, heat up the Quinoa and Almond milk to a low simmer. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the Quinoa has absorbed most of the milk and has a soft texture.

2. Once it is at the texture that you like, pull it off the heat and transfer to a bowl. Add in the fruits and enjoy!

I am definitely going to have to make this again and get a bit more creative. The options with this are endless. Quinoa is such a good base for just about anything.

When Brent finally got off work, we went out on a little date night. We went to Panera to grab him some food and I wasn’t took hungry so I ordered their berry smoothie. Normally, the way that they make it, they use a non-fat greek yogurt as the base. They actually took out the greek yogurt for me and had simply the frozen fruit and ice. It was delicious. I would say maybe even better than with the yogurt!

After downing that, we went to All Fired Up. I have been DYING to go there and I am so happy we finally got to! All Fired Up is a paint your own pottery place in Winter Park. I am sure there are tons of different places just like this all over the country but it was so much fun. There are tons of different things that you can paint. They had bowls and platters, and cookie plates, Christmas Trees, Halloween themed pottery, piggy banks. You name it, they had it for you to paint.

Once you pick out your pottery, you sit down and they explain all of the paints and all of the different tools for painting. Even if you are artistically challenged, they have stencils and stamps to help you make a master piece. Anything you can think of.

We decided on a cookie canister. When we finally sat down to paint it, we ended up staring at the empty pottery for a solid 20 minutes trying to figure out what to do next. I grabbed some lace and letter stencils and we just went to work.

The lace was apparently one of the hardest things to do, and the most time consuming, but that’s typically how anything with me goes. I like a challenge.

The girls working there are really helpful in getting you everything that you need and pointing you in the right direction. You can also bring your own wine to sip on while working on your work of art. They have some drinks there for you as well just in case you are there for the long haul.

This was our finished product, which only took a casual 3 hours. You end up leaving the piece there for them to put in the kiln. It is ready for you to pick up in a week. I can’t wait to see what this looks like when it is all done!

I highly recommend this to people that are looking for something fun to do on a weekend night thats a little more low key. If this isn’t close to you, just hit up google for a local Paint your own pottery place.

Happy Eating!
